Working to Put a Net Over Every Bed in The Gambia

UPDATE: In late December the initial distribution of 800 nets was made in The Gambia and 3 villages now have universal bednet coverage.

5,500 more nets will be distributed in the upcoming months.

Suto Yediya means "good night" in the Mandinka language.

It is what every Gambian parent says to their child when they tuck them in at night. Tragically, some of these children and many of their parents are at a high risk for contracting malaria because they cannot afford a cheap and remarkably effective tool to prevent the contraction of malaria: a $4 bednet.

Suto Yediya is an organization dedicated to providing long lasting insecticidal treated nets to Gambian families that are at a high risk for the contraction of malaria. Our goal is to provide "blanket coverage" for the remote village of Barrow Kunda in the Upper River Region of The Gambia. Like most rural Gambian villages, Barrow Kunda has suffered immensely from malaria. But if our project is successful, every person in Barrow Kunda will sleep under a treated net and the malaria burden for this village will be significantly reduced.

Against Malaria

A $20 donation will buy 5 nets and protect an entire family for 4 years!

Our Model is Simple

Every dollar you contribute to Suto Yediya will go towards the purchase of nets. We will be funding our own travel and the organization has no overhead costs. We will travel to The Gambia to distribute the nets and conduct an extensive anti-malarial education campaign. This effort will provide information on how best to use and maintain the nets, as well as other practical malaria prevention techniques.
The nets are the key to helping the people of Barrow Kunda protect their families. Each long lasting insecticidal treated net provides superb protection from mosquitoes for 4 years. Epidemiological evidence suggests that for every 20 of these nets used, 1 life will be saved.
